A Taste of History with Mary Calombaris

Food has the power to take you on a journey, to remind you of people and places in your past and to evoke powerful memories and emotions. As part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, for one night only Mary Calombaris takes over Hellenic Republic and will create a nostalgic menu showcasing the food of her edible memoir. 

Hosted by Travis McAuley, Mary will cook the food and tell the stories from her families kitchen and will take you on a journey from Cyprus through the Aegean and the Mediterranean and finally to Melbourne, where we close the evening with a contemporary retelling of a classic Hellenic dessert.

Greeks vs the rest

A Festival favourite finds a new home where fierce debate will continue over delicious food and wine. Join George Calombaris and Shane Delia and their teams of industry identities as they debate an age old dilemma – is Greek cuisine the basis for all other cuisines?

Ask any Greek, they will tell you that Greeks invented, well, everything. Join us and investigate the history of spaghetti, dumplings and the BBQ as teams unearth the history of modern dining. As the debate rages, enjoy a feast of St Katherine's sharing cuisine and, at the end, decide on the illustrious winners.

Georgie Porgie Cooking for Kids

Now this is the way to learn how to cook - in the kitchen with George!

Georgie Porgie Cooking for Kids is part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and is an exciting and informative introduction into cooking. George will teach you how to find the best ingredients, and the secrets behind making a delicious meal. There will be games, quizzes and of course some very yummy food to eat! Suitable for children up to 14 years and is fully supervised.

Making the past history… the new face of Israeli and Middle Eastern food 2012

During the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival this March, Maha is privileged to be hosting the talented and renowned Israeli Chef Meir Adoni. Celebrated for his meticulously intelligent and innovative approach to Modern Israeli cuisine, Adoni has won several awards for his famous restaurant Catit in Israel.

Together, Meir Adoni and Shane Delia will create a magnificent eight course degustation with matching wines showcasing the beautiful flavours and techniques of Modern Israel and Middle Eastern cuisine.
